September
the Governor was pleased to grant the leave I applied for, right, 3 months vacation leave and half pay leave.
3. On the 8th September, toe as of a warning conveyed to me taking place in regard th d& the Commission, I applied for permission to defer any departure which the same date harg by Mr. May, the Colonial Secretary, my strongly opposed hy Jeans. Chairman y the Commission, but approved of by the Governor. I attach a copy of the correspondence on the subject.
4. On receipt of the Report of the Commission which is dated 24th September, h. May's opposition in the 8th, long before the close of the so-called "evidence", clearly showing that everything had been cut and dried by hand, I was given until the 18th October to send in my observations and explanations embodied in a Report directed against myself personally concerning the departure, simply staggered by these concerted attacks. It turned out to be a clear case of having evidently firmly reckoned upon leaving on a date already fixed and being sent the Report home within the chance of perusing; the futility of the statement therein contained.
5. Finding that it was impossible for me to furnish my reply at such short notice, I applied for further extension of time, right, until the 25th October, which was only right considering the various and lengthy charges which had been formulated against me and which I had to reply to in full.
6. While my wife was engaged at office work and at the same time preparing my observations and explanations in the scurrilous charge brought.
